Approved Commodities 

Approved commodities include any items that the carrier allows for shipping and are not listed under our excluded or restricted categories. In simpler terms, if the carrier permits the item for transport and it doesn’t fall under restricted or prohibited goods, it’s covered by our insurance. These items may include, but are not limited to, jewellery, electronics, artwork and collectibles.

Restricted Commodities: Can be Insured but with Approval

Restricted commodities are items that can be insured, but only with prior approval from our underwriters before shipping. These items may require additional terms, conditions, or documentation to qualify for coverage.

The following items are considered restricted:

• Alcoholic Beverages
• Dangerous Goods
• Prescription Medication
• Tobacco Products

• Jewlery, Art, Antiques and Collectibles valued over $2,500.00 (such as jewellery, artwork, collectibles and electronics)

To ensure coverage for restricted commodities, all shipments must be reviewed and authorized by a ShipSimple Broker before shipping. If you’re shipping any of these items, contact us at insurance@shipsimple.ca ahead of time so we can guide you through the approval process.

Excluded Commodities: Cannot be Insured

Excluded commodities are items that cannot be insured under any circumstances. These exclusions ensure compliance with laws and regulations while minimizing risk.

The following items are excluded from coverage:

• Live Plants or Animals (including reptiles, snakes, birds, insects, etc.)
• Personal Items
• Bullion, Currency, Money, Securities, Accounts, Bills, Deeds, Evidence of Debt, Notes, Stamps, Bonds, Gift Cards, etc.
• Precious Metals (gold, silver, etc., in forms such as ingots, bullion, coins)
• Human Remains (including ashes)
• Medical Samples and Biological Products (e.g., diagnostic specimens, blood, plasma, embryos, or bodily fluids)
• Ammunition and Explosives of any kind
• Counterfeit, Illegal, or Pirated Goods or Materials
• Firearms
• Industrial Diamonds/Carbons; Gems, Gemstones, Furs, and Statuary
• Perishable Items
• Pharmaceuticals
• Temperature-Controlled Items
• Automobiles, Trucks, Vans, Motorcycles, ATVs (Commercial Transactions)
• Industrial/Commercial/Heavy Machinery and Equipment
• Precious Metals and Stones (including unfinished jewelry)
• Cannabis
• Any Item(s) Prohibited by Federal, State, or Local Laws or Regulations
